What to Expect
You’ve scheduled your horse for their first massage, but what next?
Preparing for a Session
Please have your horse groomed and dry - they don’t have to be perfect, just not caked in dirt!
Please have a shady area available for me to work with your horse in - this can be their stall.
For the first session I would love to meet you in person to get a history of your horse. You’re welcome to stay for the massage but I do ask for as much silence as possible so I can focus on your horse. The first session is typically longer than others because of taking a history and the initial evaluation.
For subsequent massages you are as always welcome to observe, but I am comfortable on my own as well.
After a Session
I will send you session notes by the end of the day. I take notes for myself directly after the session, but will organize them into something more clear and concise for you to keep for your records.
I like to take your horse on a brief walk after the massage to help them boost circulation to the freshly worked tissue, flush any toxins stirred up by the massage (such as lactic acid), and can help reduce any soreness that may come from a massage (if the horse was particularly tense or stiff.) If you prefer you can give them a turnout instead of a hand-walk.
If they had a particularly difficult time with the massage I would recommend half intensity exercise for the next day. Some horses who are more tense or tight or restricted may experience soreness the day after.
